Hatching our chicken eggs 2008

This week we have had some very special new arrivals - some chickens which have actually hatched in school. We have been able to watch them from the first chipping and cracking of the egg to emerging rather damp from the shell and finally drying out into the fluffy babies we all recognise. The eggswere kept in a special incubator and then the baby chickens were transferred as they hatchedinto a brooder with a heat lamp. We have been lucky as all ten of the eggs have successfully hatched.

While we have been checking up on the chicks in our classes as often as we can, we have also been using a webcam to record their progress, and taken lots of photographs. Here is a small selection.
