Our school is located at an idyllic spot at the centre of the village. We take every opportunity to take the children into the community for all sorts of activities. We use the village cricket pitch and football field next to school for sports and other activities. We can walk to both Great and Little Abington churches for Harvest and Christmas services. People in our local community are involved with the school, for example coming into school to hear the children read.
In the summer the whole school took to the footpaths to walk from Abington to Hildersham, a delightful route through meadows and across the river Granta. We had a picnic and explored Hildersham church, making sketches and doing brass rubbings in the church.
We hold a wide variety of fund-raising events and encourage the children to plan their own activities. Every summer the school and PTFA hold a traditional summer fair with each class preparing a country dance. Other events we have recently held include a whole-school sponsored walk around our village and the nearby Granta Park campus, collecting coins placed around the playground for Children in Need, Easter fund-raising stalls, and non-uniform days such as Jeans for Genes.
